What Is L'Oréal's BIG BANG Beauty Tech Innovation Program?

L'Oréal's BIG BANG Beauty Tech Open Innovation Program is the group's flagship open innovation initiative, first launched in mainland China in 2020 and now active across all five North Asia markets: mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan. The 2025 edition was the largest in the program's history, drawing over 700 applicants globally and selecting 19 winners.

Speed 3D Inc. was selected as a winner representing the Taiwan and Hong Kong region — one of only two companies from that region to win in 2025. Following the award, Speed 3D was invited to exhibit at the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) Innovation Incubation Zone in Shanghai, where L'Oréal Group officially described Picbot Beauty as "the world's first AI-powered smart beauty vending machine, transforming the try-and-buy concept into a tangible retail experience."

Case 1: Maybelline × Watson's Ximending — Anamorphic 3D + Picbot Beauty, Same Location

In early 2026, Speed 3D executed an integrated campaign for L'Oréal's Maybelline New York brand at Watson's in Ximending, Taipei — deploying two technologies simultaneously in the same retail location.

Anamorphic 3D advertising Speed 3D produced and ran an anamorphic 3D ad on the store's display screen for Maybelline's Super Stay foundation launch. Using anamorphic illusion techniques, the ad creates the effect of the product breaking out of the screen into three-dimensional space — no special glasses required — drawing strong attention from foot traffic in one of Taipei's busiest commercial districts.

Picbot Beauty smart vending machine, on-site A Picbot Beauty unit was deployed in the same location. Shoppers drawn in by the 3D display could step up to the machine, use AI virtual try-on to preview how foundation, lipstick, and other products look on their own face, take an AI-generated photo showing their face transformed into a floating product visual, and complete the purchase on the spot — no staff required.

This is the first known deployment combining anamorphic 3D advertising with an AI virtual try-on vending machine in the same retail environment — a complete marketing funnel in one location: attention → interaction → conversion.

Case 2: La Roche-Posay B5 Anamorphic 3D, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi A9, Xinyi District

In March 2026, Speed 3D launched a campaign for L'Oréal's dermatological skincare brand La Roche-Posay (理膚寶水), promoting its B5 line at Shin Kong Mitsukoshi A9 in Taipei's Xinyi District.

The anamorphic 3D ad creates the illusion of the product flying directly over pedestrians' heads — a high-impact visual in one of Taipei's premier retail corridors. Marvin Chiu, Founder & CEO of Speed 3D Inc., described the effect: "The illusion is so immersive it feels like it's flying right over pedestrians' heads. Playful, hyper-engaging, and a perfect way to bring beauty innovation to life in the real world."

This is one of Speed 3D's first commercial deployments following its BIG BANG 2025 win, and marks its entry into active multi-brand collaboration across L'Oréal Group's portfolio.

Speed 3D's Total AI Marketing Solution for Beauty Brands

Speed 3D offers two modular capabilities that can be deployed independently or combined into a single activation.

Anamorphic 3D ad production and deployment End-to-end service from creative concept and anamorphic content production to on-site screen deployment. Speed 3D's production process is built for brand marketing timelines — fast enough to align with product launch windows, without the lead times of traditional production houses.

Picbot Beauty smart vending machine Integrates AI generative virtual try-on, personalized product recommendations, AI photo interaction, and real-time in-machine purchase. Deployable in high-traffic retail environments: pharmacies, department stores, transit hubs. Functions as a sales channel, sampling tool, or first-party consumer data platform.

Integrated deployment: both in one location The two solutions combined in a single space create a seamless experience arc — anamorphic ad attracts attention, Picbot Beauty converts that attention into interaction and purchase. No on-site staff required. Best suited for:

  • Beauty and personal care product launches

  • Pharmacy and department store pop-up activations

  • Unmanned or lightly staffed retail environments where high engagement still matters

Why Brands Work with Speed 3D

Speed and flexibility: Speed 3D's anamorphic ad production is optimized for brand marketing cycles — campaigns can be turned around fast enough to match short product launch windows.

Single-vendor integration: Speed 3D controls both anamorphic 3D content production and Picbot Beauty hardware. Brands work with one partner across the full activation.

L'Oréal Group validation: The BIG BANG 2025 win represents L'Oréal Group's formal recognition of Speed 3D's technology and commercial viability — a meaningful signal for brands evaluating new marketing tech partners.

Measurable retail touchpoints: Picbot Beauty generates consumer preference data at the point of interaction, giving brands first-party data that is difficult to capture in traditional physical retail.
